SDIRC Produces Highest 3rd Grade Reading FSA Scores on the Treasure Coast

Individual Florida Standards Assessments for 3rd grade ELA (English Language Arts/Reading), were released today by the Florida Department of Education. Indian River County has the highest percentage of students scoring a level 3 or higher among all school districts on the Treasure Coast, including, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee Counties.

One week after being notified by the Florida Department of Education that our district had a State Finalist for Teacher of the Year, we were informed that we also had a State Finalist for the 2019 School-Related Employee of the Year! The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) is excited to announce that Mrs. Daisy Rios, Secretary at Fellsmere Elementary School, has been selected out of 71 district-level candidates throughout Florida, as one of the top five State Finalists for the 2019 School-Related Employee of the Year.

This morning, Jacob Oliva, Chancellor of Public Schools, Paul Burns, Deputy Chancellor for Educator Quality, and their team from the Florida Department of Education, joined District staff and administration at Vero Beach High School to surprise Dr. Mosblech, during her third period AP Environmental Science class.

VBHS Hosts Pre-Prom Mock DUI Crash Event

Vero Beach High School (VBHS), in cooperation with the Indian River County Fire Rescue and other agencies, will be hosting a Mock DUI crash event on Wednesday, April 24th, at 8:30 a.m. on 20th Avenue. At this event, senior students who attend Vero Beach High School will learn firsthand about the horrifying consequences associated with making destructive decisions behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Vero Beach High School Orchestra Places in Top 3 in National Competition

Our district is proud to announce that our Vero Beach High School (VBHS) Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Matthew Stott, placed second runner-up in the 2019 National School Orchestra Championships “The National Orchestra Cup” in Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

SRHS Band Selected to March in NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade

We are proud to announce that The Sebastian River High School (SRHS) Marching Sharks were selected to march in the 2019 New York City (NYC) St. Patrick’s Day Parade, on Saturday, March 16th, 2019. SRHS band students will depart Thursday, March 14th, via bus to embark on a 5-day trip to New York City to participate in the parade and experience the sights and sounds of the Big Apple.

The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) held their annual “Stars of the Year” Gala on Monday, January, 14, at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. At the conclusion of the program, our five Teacher of the Year finalists and five Employee of the Year finalists were brought up on stage, honored with bouquets and boutonnieres, and anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner of the 2020 Teacher of the Year and 2019 Employee of the Year.

School District of Indian River Achieves 92% Graduation Rate

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) released student graduation rates for the 2017-18 school year. Indian River County improved its graduation rate by almost 5 points; increasing from 87.1% in 2016-2017 to 92% in 2017-2018. This exceeds the State of Florida’s graduation rate by almost 6 percentage points.

Liberty Magnet School Boil Water Notice
12/14/2018
Due to a broken water main that was repaired overnight, Liberty Magnet School will be under a 72-hour boil water notice. The Health Department and Indian River County EOC have been notified, and a Health Department representative will be on site at Liberty Magnet School to initiate water testing. Necessary precautions have been taken, and bottled water has been delivered to the school for use.

The College Board and The International Baccalaureate recently released reports indicating that the students in Indian River County have outperformed both state and global averages in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. Not only did our student scores increase, but participation in AP and IB classes, by all demographics, increased tremendously.
