The School District Of Indian River County Celebrates Highest Overall Graduation Rate On The Treasure Coast

Vero Beach, FL, January 7, 2021- The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) achieved a 2019-2020 graduation rate of 93.4%, improving 4.9 percentage points from the 2018-2019 school year and ranking the SDIRC #1 among school districts on the Treasure Coast. Our district’s state ranking catapulted from 21st to 7th out of 67 school districts in the state and exceeded Florida’s 2019-2020 graduation rate (90%) for the 10th consecutive year.

Both Sebastian River High School (SRHS) and Vero Beach High School (VBHS) improved their graduation rates as compared to the 2018-2019 academic year, with SRHS earning a 2019-2020 graduation rate of 91.4%, increasing nearly 10 percentage points from 82% in 2018-2019, and VBHS earning a 2019-2020 graduation rate of 95.6%, increasing from 93.0% the previous school year. Our district ranks 10th in the state for rate of growth in graduation rates, outperforming 57 other school districts in Florida.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Rick Myhre, stated, “An immense amount of credit goes to the teachers, counselors, and administrators that made this achievement possible.”

The School District of Indian River County continues to show improvements in graduation outcomes for Black and Hispanic students. The 90% graduation rate of Black students in 2019-2020 shows an increase of 9.4 percentage points from the 2018-2019 graduation rate of 80.6%, while the graduation rate of our Hispanic students increased 9.2 percentage points, from 82.9% in 2018-2019 to 92.1% in 2019-2020. Our graduation rate for students with disabilities increased from 78% in 2018-2019 to 86.7% in 2019-2020.
