Vero Beach, FL, March 6, 2019– We are proud to announce that The Sebastian River High School (SRHS) Marching Sharks were selected to march in the 2019 New York City (NYC) St. Patrick’s Day Parade, on Saturday, March 16th, 2019. SRHS band students will depart Thursday, March 14th, via bus to embark on a 5-day trip to New York City to participate in the parade and experience the sights and sounds of the Big Apple. Along with the prestigious honor of marching in the parade, the trip includes a showing of Wicked on Broadway, a four-hour city tour, a view from the top of Freedom Tower, a dinner cruise on the Hudson River, and a choice of attending Kiss Me Kate on Broadway, seeing the Blue Man Group, or attending a New York Philharmonic concert to hear Mozart’s Requiem.

Marching Sharks Director, Ashby Goldstein, said, “We are so excited about our upcoming trip to march in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We have been planning this trip for over a year now, and our students can’t wait to experience everything the Big Apple has to offer! The parade and the entire trip will surely be the experience of a lifetime for our students. We are so proud to represent Sebastian River High School and our wonderful surrounding community. We are incredibly thankful for their continual support!”

The SRHS Marching Sharks are celebrating 25 years, also known as the “Silver Anniversary,” as the Marching Sharks, and throughout those years, they have set a high standard for marching bands across the country. The many accomplishments and recognitions of the Marching Sharks are what caught the attention of the selection committee of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which include, Grand Champions at the First Coast Invitational in Ponte Vedra, FL; Grand Champions at the Crown Jewel Festival Marching Competition in Vero Beach; 2nd Runner Up at the Cypress Bay Thunder Invitational in Weston, FL; and a Straight Superior rating at the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment, to name a few from this season.
