Five SDIRC School Receive Designation As Schools of Excellence

Vero Beach, Florida, October 19, 2018: The School District of Indian River County is excited to announce that The State Board of Education has designated five Indian River County schools as Schools of Excellence: Rosewood Magnet School, Osceola Magnet School, Liberty Magnet School, North County Charter School, and Indian River Charter High School.

Superintendent Rendell said, “All five of these schools have a history of strong academic performance. This recognition is the result of the effort put forth by the students, the quality instruction provided by the staff, and the support of the parents. We are so happy for them.”

In order to qualify for initial designation as a School of Excellence, schools had to receive a grade of A or B in each of the most recent three school years (2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18) and had to rank at the 80th percentile or higher for their school type for at least two of the last three years. Qualifying schools shall retain the designation for up to three years.

Schools that received an initial School of Excellence designation based on 2016-17 school grades maintained that designation, if the school earned a 2017-18 school grade of A or B.

Mrs. Flores, Principal of Rosewood Magnet School responded to the news saying, “We are thrilled to be designated as a ‘School of Excellence.’ It is an honor for Rosewood Magnet to be recognized as a top performing school within the District and State of Florida. We attribute this to the commitment of our staff, students, parents, and community partners working together, each and every day, to ensure academic excellence for all. Our Panthers take great pride in their Rich Traditions and Bright Futures, as they continue to learn and grow each day. It is wonderful to see their hard work reflected with this recognition. Go Panthers! We are very proud of you all.”

Dr. Keaton, Principal at North County Charter School said, “North County Charter School is honored to be designated a School of Excellence. This award recognizes our focus on academics and our dedication to student achievement. I am so proud of our staff, students, and families.”

Mrs. Harris, Principal at Liberty Magnet School said, “Liberty Magnet School is honored to be recognized as a 2017-18 School of Excellence. We are so proud to also be among the elementary schools that maintained the designation from 2016-17. Our success is a testimony to the relationships that exist between our teachers and staff, and the families we serve. I am so very proud of the hard work of our students and look forward to the continued success of our school.”
