SDIRC Superintendent Mark Rendell Selected To Ride With Blue Angels

Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell Has Been Selected As A Rider On The Key Influencer Flight

Dr. Rendell was nominated by the Vero Beach Air Show for this great honor. Dr. Rendell’s credentials, biography, and letter of intent were reviewed by a selection committee for the Blue Angels. Dr. Rendell has over 27 years of experience in public education serving as a middle and high school teacher, high school principal, and district administrator. As the Superintendent of the Schools in Indian River County, he oversees 26 school sites with over 17,000 students. Dr. Rendell visits schools and spends time talking with students at every grade level to get feedback about our school district, and meets with a Student Advisory Council each quarter to gain insight from their perspective. He is also very active in our community as a member of the Vero Beach Sunrise Rotary Club, the Children’s Services Advisory Council, the Executive Roundtable, the Chamber of Commerce, and the local United Way Board.

Dr. Rendell is not new to the military having served in the United States Army. Also, as a child, he grew up on military bases all over the world, as his father served our country as a member of the United States Navy. He still remembers the first time he saw the Blue Angels. He was 10 years old watching a Homecoming Air Show at a base in Pensacola. To fly with a Blue Angel Pilot in an FA/18 Hornet is a dream come true for Dr. Rendell.

Dr. Rendell stated, “If my participation as a Key Influencer could lead more young men and women to choose to serve our country, I feel that I would be paying back some of what I received growing up.”

Shawn Frost, School Board Chairman, said, “We are proud of our Superintendent of Schools being selected to fly with the Blue Angels. Although a little jealous, I must say that he's truly deserving of this tremendous honor. Being a Superintendent of Schools is great preparation for handling the pressure of g-forces and climbing to the top. Congratulations to Dr. Rendell, and stay safe, so we can take this district to the stratosphere.”
