SDIRC Selects Six Semi-Finalists in Superintendent Search

Vero Beach, FL, November 11, 2019— On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, the School Board of Indian River County, in collaboration with the leadership and expertise of Hazard, Young and Attea (HYA), identified six semi-finalists as part of the superintendent search process. During the workshop, HYA utilized the DELPI technique, which is a method of group decision-making and forecasting that involves successively collating the judgments of experts, to assist the School Board in narrowing the list of candidates to six semi-finalists recommended to be interviewed on November 14, 2019. The planning session facilitated by Dr. Monica Browne and Dr. Bill Adams, both from HYA, was a productive one, with the remainder of the meeting focusing on the interview process to be followed on November 14th, 15th, and 16th.

Our Board attributes a very successful search to the professionalism and experience of Dr. Browne and Dr. Adams. The six semi-finalists to be interviewed on November 14, 2019, include:

  • Brennan W. Asplen, III, Ed.D.: Dr. Asplen is currently serving as the Deputy Superintendent in St. Johns County School District in St. Augustine, Florida. According to Dr. Asplen’s resume, he has also served as an Associate Superintendent for Human Resources, High School Principal, also in St. Johns County, Florida, and Middle School Principal in Seminole County Public Schools, in Florida.
  • Margaret (Peggy) Aune, Ed.D.: Dr. Aune is currently serving as the Associate Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction for Collier County Public Schools in Naples, Florida. In addition, Dr. Aune has served as an Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Executive Director of Secondary Programs, Principal, and Coordinator of Human Resources, all in Collier County, Florida.
  • Michael J. Dunsmore, Ed.D.: Dr. Dunsmore is in his eleventh year as a Superintendent in North Carolina, formerly serving in Tyrrell County, and currently in Wayne County Public Schools. Other administrative experience includes Supervisor of Special Education in Pennsylvania.
  • Peter B. Licata, Ph.D.: Dr. Licata is currently serving as a Regional Superintendent for the School District of Palm Beach County, Florida. He has also served as an Assistant Superintendent/ Director of Choice and Innovation, Area Director of Quality Assurance, Director of Secondary Curriculum and Principal, all in Palm Beach County, Florida.
  • David K. Moore, Ed.D.: Dr. Moore is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent in Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Miami, Florida. Other administrative experience includes Administrative Director and High School Principal, all in Miami, Florida.
  • Randy Shearouse, Ph.D.: Dr. Shearouse has been serving as the Superintendent for the Effingham Board of Education in Springfield, Georgia for the past fourteen (14) years. He has also served as a High School Principal and Elementary School Principal, all in Springfield, Georgia.

The first round of interviews is scheduled to begin on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. and will be facilitated by Dr. Monica Browne from HYA. Finalists will present to the Board and complete a two-hour interview on Saturday, November 16th, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Our new superintendent will be selected after all finalists complete their presentation and the two-hour interview.

All interviews will be conducted in a public meeting in the Joe N. Idlette, Jr. Teacher Education Center, located at the School District of Indian River County Administrative Center: 6500 57th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32967.
