When COVID-19 forced the closure of school campuses and buildings, our district took immediate action, developing innovative practices to overcome obstacles in our path. Instead of allowing our new reality to become a barrier that would delay the mission of our district, we became #SDIRCStrongerTogether pushing forward to make decisions that were “Best By Kids.”

The School District of Indian River County Approves Millage

The School District of Indian River County is proud to announce that our Board has determined it is in the best interest of the students in Indian River County to submit to the voters the question of continuing the ad valorem millage of a 0.50 mill for four (4) years for essential operating needs to provide high-quality educational opportunities for all students, recruit and retain high-quality educators, create technology-rich classrooms, and expand supports for school safety and mental health.

We feel that it is extremely important to celebrate the accomplishments of our “Senior Class of 2020,” while also ensuring that the safety and well-being of our school community members.

Teacher and Employee of the Year Named at Gala

Vero Beach, FL, February 3, 2020- The School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) held their annual “Stars of the Year” Gala on Monday, January 27, at the Sebastian River High School Performing Arts Center. At the conclusion of the program, our five Teacher of the Year finalists and five Employee of the Year finalists were brought up on stage, honored with bouquets and boutonnieres, and anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner of the 2021 Teacher and 2020 Employee of the Year.

SDIRC Announces Dates and Times for Dr. Moore's School Faculty Meetings and Parent Nights

Dr. David Moore will be meeting with each school’s faculty and will host two town hall style “Family Nights” in January, 2020. These meetings will allow Dr. Moore to become even more familiar with the staff members in our schools and the families we serve, and will provide him with additional opportunities to engage our faculty members and the community in conversation, regarding improvement of the quality of instruction for all children in Indian River County.

Dr. David Moore Conducts Two-Day "Opportunity Tour" of Our District

Dr. David Moore just completed the first day of his two-day District-wide “Opportunity Tour.” As part of Dr. Moore’s onboarding process, this two-day school site "Opportunity Tour" will provide him opportunities to meet with principals, teachers, and students, while allowing him to see the outstanding things that are happening in our schools, as well as identify opportunities to improve the quality of instruction for all children in our District.

The Board has called a special meeting, tonight, Tuesday, November 26th, to approve the employment agreement of David K. Moore, Ed.D., incoming superintendent. Dr. Moore will be formally signing his contract in front of our audience, and speaking at the meeting, starting at 5 p.m. The special meeting will be held in the Joe N. Idlette, Jr. Teacher Education Center at the J. A. Thompson Administrative Center at 6500 57th Street, Vero Beach. Dr. Moore will begin his onboarding with our District on Monday, December 2, 2019.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, the School Board of Indian River County selected Dr. David Moore, with a unanimous 5-0 vote, to serve as our new superintendent. Pending an additional, more extensive background check, and contract negotiations, Dr. Moore will begin working with our District on December 2, 2019.

The School District of Indian River County is canceling school on Thursday, September 5th, and reopening schools on Friday, September 6th following an announcement by the Indian River County Emergency Services Department that all mandatory evacuations have been lifted as of Tuesday September 3rd at 12 p.m. 12-month employees should report to their normal work location on Wednesday, September 4th.
